How can elements of chance be integrated into textile design practice, enabling creative practitioners to explore the role of serendipity in the design process?
To investigate this, I conducted a rather unconventional study, I interviewed a few fridges. With this, I aimed to examine the intersection between chance, creativity, and textile design to understand how chance may alleviate the pressure on design decision-making and embrace the unforeseen, and admittedly, to satisfy a bit of curiosity.
I believe that taking a deep dive into the fridges of my friends and producing that into woven fabrics was the exploration of the lack of control I was after, inherent within the possibilities of the state of flux we live in.
"An Interview with a Fridge" transforms an everyday, seemingly mundane source of inspiration into intricate woven textiles, celebrating the beauty of the unexpected in design.
