2021 Material Exploration
Created as part of a material exploration class, this piece was developed in response to a challenge: to invent a material panel unlike anything seen before.
InterINKed Blots is a rigid sheet composed of layered rice paper and woven vermicelli noodles. Constructed while wet, semi-transparent rice paper circles were cut, layered, and infused with ink to create an organic inkblot effect, resembling both an oyster’s texture and a net-like pattern.
This versatile composite material can be layered for added strength and scaled to any size with minimal cost, thanks to its affordable and accessible components. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with unpredictable forms and patterns that can never be exactly replicated—making every panel a visually striking and texturally unique experience.
