I was privileged to receive a scholarship that allowed me to intern in Vietnam with KHAAR, a small sustainable fashion company.
KHAAR is a "phygital" Vietnamese fashion brand, working with recycled and eco-friendly materials.
During this internship, I collaborated with Eloise Daysh, Kha H Ngo, and the KHAAR team to design and develop hand-woven fabrics for future garments. These textiles were crafted on a large-scale tapestry loom, using scrap fabrics and yarns from previous collections, along with found materials sourced from around Ho Chi Minh City.
These fabrics became part of KHAAR’s 2022 Summer Collection, Tóc.
“Hair is one of the fundamental components of a person’s identity—just as fibers are the foundation of fabric. Each person’s hair is unique, carrying genetic traits from ancestral roots. The poetry of each textile reflects these characteristics, forming a fabric with its own distinctive story. By intertwining inherited properties with human craftsmanship, each strand is twisted and woven—breathing life into Nature’s creations.”
The result? Delicate, translucent fabrics intertwined with gleaming strands of "hair," evoking the soft, sensual baby hairs at the nape of the neck.
These garments were later showcased in the 2022 Elle Vietnam "New Beginnings" Fashion Show, Elle Vietnam's December 2022 issue, and various pop-up stores. The techniques developed during this project continue to be integrated into KHAAR’s ongoing collections and creative practice.
